I have learned that action research
is an intuitive form of professional development. It allows administrators and
teachers to be involved in the developing the question, the process by which
the question will be evaluated, data gathering and reflection. With these
steps, action research is allowed to naturally be a cyclical cycle of
development and revision so that best practices are forthcoming. Participating in action research helps
deter teacher or administrator isolation by working collaboratively with other
professionals. Second, by engaging in the process, principals become role
models for the teachers and the students by taking ownership of their own
learning. Another benefit in action research is that it can help best practices
flourish at your school. And finally, taking to time to participate in action
research helps slow down the pace that characterizes principals’ work.
Action
research would be beneficial in inquiring about multiple issues that affect the
school. Action research can be involved in inquiring about how tardiness
affects a certain subgroup in relation to their grade. Another idea is what
aspects of technology are effective in increasing overall student achievement.
Another idea would be if increased technological uses in the classroom
correlate to increased achievement scores in the classroom.
